Most systems with a real light rail network (Minneapolis,Portland, Pittsburgh, SD, Denver) have ~70M+ riders per year. The next lowest agencies in the US with a heavy rail system are Baltimore and Miami have nearly 100,000,000 riders/year. (~31.5M is a 10% reduction) With additional losses projected by the agency. It seems like ridership could be down another 10% this year. Then since it’s dropped nearly 30% to 35M riders in 2018.
However, Cleveland’s 2014 peak of 49M riders was at about 40% it’s overall 1979 peak of 129M riders.
SEPTA, LA METRO, CTA BART even smaller systems Buffalo’s NFTA Other midsized cities like Columbus, Pittsburgh, and Richmond have actually seen increases over the last year or two with Columbus and Richmond hitting record highs. While most American agencies have lost riders since the peak in 2013/14 most of them are cumulatively down about 8-10% and 2013-14 was the systems record high.
